In June 2025, I adopted Missy — a three-legged township rescue who lost her leg after being hit by a car. 4Paws rehabilitated her and found her a forever home. Mine.
What I didn't expect was how hard it would be to find places that actually welcome her. Calling ahead, Googling, getting excited — only to arrive and hear "sorry, no dogs allowed." It ruined my day every single time.
So I started a Google doc. Every dog-friendly café, park, market and vet I found, I added it. And then it hit me: I can't be the only one doing this.
That's how Pawhood was born — a free, verified directory of dog-friendly places across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape.
